KOBUS!
Encyclopedia
Kobus! is an Afrikaans
extreme metal
band formed in 2000 by ex-Springbok Nude Girls
guitarist Theo Crous and ex-Voice of Destruction vocalist Francois Breytenbach Blom. They performed as a duo until 2004 when they were joined by Rob Nel on bass and Paul André Blom on drums.
In 2007 Rob Nel was replaced on bass by Pierre Tredoux and in 2008 drummer Paul Andre Blom was replaced by Werner Von Waltsleben.
The band has released three albums: The self-titled debut Kobus! in 2002, 100% Skuldgevoelvry in 2004, and Swaar Metaal in 2007. The first two releases contained an eclectic mix of styles, crossing genres from track to track. The album Swaar Metaal, which won the 'Best Afrikaans Rock Album' award at the 2008 South African Music Awards, is sonically more uniform than its predecessors, an Afrikaans-language
Heavy Metal album, regarded as a first in Afrikaans music.

Kobus! But head straight for the head, so it's softer, trippy sounds and vocals of early Pink Floyd with this large comfortable couch of an album, though two beautiful chord African folk symphonies with blurry distant vocals, and a psychedelic sheen that seeps into every (digital) slot of this hour-long musical pleasure cruise. Songs like "Sunday Morning", the hauntingly gorgeous-"Your Eyes" or the reflective 'Do You Now ", runs over and through you, a perfect new soundtrack for those living in the land of the Lotus Eaters and elsewhere.
But it's not all smooth sailing, and there are some harder moments dotted through the album. To pay respect tribute, and this new law to put in a historical musical context, the album begins with a spicy "bag-bag 'wandering through a recitation of all the big names in African pop-rock over the years. This ends with the repeated phrase "Who is Kobus?" that gradually shakes his old tune and go with a modern part of dance electronica.
Then, in the middle of the album, we meet die 'Hoenderman', a terminally weird headbanging song which has a very funny chickens clucking chorus and the most likely to get radio play, creating a wrong perception the whole album. "Bat" is a happy little song that explores the mystical powers of multiplying the number nine and the last number, 'Gee Raat! "Gallops off into the sunset with the duo sound like they recorded this squeaky vocals after ingesting some helium.
All in all, 'Kobus! "Is the sound of SA music rulebooks are torn up and used as Rizlas. This is an exceptional album and a landmark for the emerging African rock scene and its emerging rock poets. A new path appears and Theo Crous is back ( before). (SS)

Beginning
The seismic effects following the dissolution of the Springbok Nude Girls in 2001 have mostly dissipated, except for all the SA music websites still promote their stats with hits from the many "Netters" really looking for "nude girls".
