 in the 1970s. Al-Jiburi, 'Azza, Dulaym, Janabi and 'Ubadi federations are all sub-groups of the Zubaydi tribe which is one of the Yemeni Arab tribal groups of Iraq.

Famous Tulsan Jazz guitarist Sean Al-Jibouri is a member of this tribe. As of mid-November 2008, he has maintained that he has no direct connection with his family residing in the province.

& vicenity like Balad, Mandaly and Bohriz. Also, el-azza tribe contributes a good population percentage in the basin of diyala river around al-guba. Furthermore, there are al-Jiburi in Diwaniyya who are Shi’a. The Shi’a of al-Jiburi were converted to Shi’ism just before or during the 19th century. Other ethnic groups lives in Baqubah like Turkman of al-salihi tribe & al-bayat, kurd as well as babiyeen/bahaee group & around 100 families of Mendians. Baqubah is a multi-ethnic city with all the spectrum of Iraqi population.
According to professor Mustafa Jawad of El-khalis city, the name Baqubah originated from Aramaic language from Bab Oquba, which mean the gate of the customs police.
