. In November 2007 Rohatinsky ran his debut marathon in a time of 2:15:22, placing 9th in the Olympic Trials Marathon.

Josh's illustrious running career began in high school when he began to receive national attention for winning state titles in cross country running as well as track and field. Josh finished at Provo High School in 2000 and then departed to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Chris of Latter-day Saints. Rohatinsky enrolled at Brigham Young University after his missionary service and graduated from BYU in 2007 with a degree in exercise science. He later relocated to Beaverton, Oregon

, did not coordinate with his. Rohatinsky found himself doing workouts alone. He eventually parted ways with Salazar on good terms in May 2009, and started training under the guidance of Jerry Schumacher
