 and Desportivo de Chaves - with seven goals, he helped the latter qualify for the only time in its history for the UEFA Cup - the 23-year old signed for F.C. Porto, but failed to adjust grossly.

In the following summer, Plácido moved to fellow league giants Sporting Clube de Portugal, meeting the same fate. In January 1989, he moved abroad to France
