Its predecessor organizations were the Jordanian Association of Engineers (جمعية المهندسين الأردنية) founded in 1953 and the Engineering Professional Union ( نقابة أصحاب المهن الهندسية) founded in 1958.

The JEA started a campaign for unemployed engineers.
