The Board has nearly 55,000 mathematicians and scientists who are members of the four organizations.
Each January at the Joint Mathematics Meeting
JPBM gives its Communications Award to a journalist or other communicator for bringing accurate mathematical information to non-mathematical audiences.
Each April, JPBM celebrates Mathematics Awareness Month to increase public understanding of and appreciation for mathematics. Every year there is a theme for the Mathematics Awareness Month. This started off as the Mathematics Awareness Week celebration in 1986.
The theme for Mathematics Awareness Month 2008 is Mathematics and Voting.
