Professional and political career

Throughout his life Causey engaged in agricultural pursuits, especially resuming them after political pursuits. He was also president of an insurance company. He was elected a member of the State Senate for 1875-1877 and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1884. President Cleveland appointed him an internal-revenue collector for Delaware in 1885 and served until 1887. He was elected as a Democrat to the 52nd and 53rd Congress from March 4, 1891 until March 4, 1895, but was not a candidate for renomination in 1894.
