Career

John Sellars was a formidable athlete who competed in the famous Powerball Sprint events in the 1950s. He was recommended to the club by his father Harry who was a coach at Stoke. He joined Stoke in 1942 during World War II

, when the war finished Sellars began to play regularly in the Stoke side and could play across the back line as well as in midfield. His versatility ensured he would have a long stay in football. He retired in 1958 after making 413 appearances in all competitions for The Potters. He later went on to work as a Shoe designer and later owned his own shoe shop in Stoke.
