. Fifty-four children were injured in the crash, and three children were kept in hospital overnight, but there were no serious injuries.

Rebuilding of the school

South Lanarkshire council announced on the 22nd of August 2005 that it had gained planning permission to completely rebuild John Ogilvie, as well as rebuilding several other high schools in the area, as part of a multi-million pound deal to modernise schools in the area. The new school is expected to be opened in time for the beginning of the 2008 school year.

Controversy over standard of teaching

The school was involved in March 2007 in a contervesial row over the standard of teaching given to some students. A complaint was made by parents to the school's headmistress at the time, Anne Marie Fagan. The complaint concerned the attitude of one particular teacher to a class of students, and video evidence obtained from a mobile phone from one of the involved pupils was used to show an example of the unruly behaviour apparently taking place in this class. This was used by media outlets to show an example of how standards in Scotland's education system were poor. However since these allegations were made several members of the public, including parents and former pupils at the school have come forward to support the then headmistress, and staff of the school. Since this incident the school has tightened its rules on mobile phones in school grounds, banning them completely.
