John Niland

John Rodney Niland AC (born 10 September 1940) is an Australian academic and company director. He is currently on the Board of Macquarie Group and Macquarie Bank. Niland obtained a Bachelor and Master of Commerce from the University of New South Wales

He holds a PhD from the University of Illinois.
Before engaging in corporate business, he held academic appointments at Cornell University

and of Australia 's Group of Eight Universities
. He also served a term as president of the Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee
