All-Big Ten as a junior and senior, Frank ranks 4th on the all-time Ohio State receiving list with 121 catches for 1,481 yards and 23 touchdowns. The receptions and yardage totals are the most in school history by a tight end. He was a 3-year starter, catching a personal high 45 passes in 1981 and again in 1983, still a record total for tight ends. He was voted the team MVP as a senior. In the classroom, Frank was a 2-time Academic All-American and was a Rhodes Scholar nominee as a senior.

Frank finished his career in 1988 with a total of 65 receptions for 662 yards (605.3 m) and 10 touchdowns.

In 2009 he became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and in 2010, he became an Assistant Professor of Clinical Otolarygology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeon. He has performed over 2000 hair transplant procedures in Northern California and New York City since 1998 and in 2006 he opened Anapelli Hair Clinic in New York City, specializing in surgical hair transplantation as well as Biocapillation.
In 2002, he co-founded the Israeli Bobsled Team
. He participated on the team for four years before stepping down so younger competitors could carry forward on the still-active team.
Frank, who is Jewish, was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
