His next band, Tree63, signed a record deal with UK label Survivor Records
and then later with US-based indie label InPop Records

Ellis moved back to Durban in December 2007 after breaking up Tree63 to take a sabbatical and began his solo career in 2010 with the release of his debut solo album, Come Out Fighting. His solo album is a step away from his former musical direction, which has strong spiritual themes. The album focuses on local politics, social injustice and his disillusionment with modern Christianity. The album was recorded in Johannesburg and Durban with Broken Records, and was released in June 2010.
