 in 1996 upon the latter’s retirement. He holds degrees from the universities of Milan (Cattolica) and Oxford. He has written two books on J.L. Austin and a history of philosophy in Maltese. Friggieri has been guest research scholar and lecturer at the Universities of Venice, Amsterdam, St Andrews, Augsburg and Genova. He is also a poet, playwright and theatre director with three volumes of poetry, two collections of short stories and a number of plays to his credit. In 2004 he contested Malta’s first elections for the European Parliament of behalf of the governing Nationalist Party but was not successful.
