Smith has earned a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu purple belt under Aloisio Silva Academy and holds various Brazilian Jiu-jitsu titles, including the Joe Moreira
Tournament Lightweight Champion, Copa Pacifica Welterweight Champion, the Cleber Luciano Tournament Welterweight Champion and the Paragon Tournament Champion. Smith also placed third in the Southern California Submission Pro-Am and the 2003 Gracie Open. He fought in his first pro fight with Team Punishment
