Jimmy Greenspoon's mother, Mary O'Brian, was a silent screen star who had film roles with stars such as Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin (to name a few). His father was a successful businessman, owning his own textile factory. The family lived in Beverly Hills, CA where Jimmy went to high school.
In the 1960s Greenspoon played in several local bands, including The New Dimensions. In 1968 he met a trio
of vocalists, Danny Hutton
, Chuck Negron
, and Cory Wells
who had a recording contract
with Dunhill Records
and were looking for backing musician
s. Greenspoon joined their new band Three Dog Night, which had commercial success in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Greenspoon helped re-launch Three Dog Night in the mid 1980s. In 1991 Greenspoon co-authored a book
with Mark Bego, about the band entitled One Is the Loneliest Number: On the Road and Behind the Scenes With the Legendary Rock Band Three Dog Night. He is still touring with Three Dog Night as of 2011.
