Jim Caldwell (footballer)

Jim Caldwell was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne
in the Victorian Football League
(VFL).
Caldwell played through the centre and was a premiership player with Williamstown
before joining South Melbourne in 1909. In his debut, South Melbourne reached the grand final but Caldwell missed out on playing due to suspension of nine weeks for striking in the Preliminary Final. Almost a decade later, in 1918, he captained the club to victory in the grand final. By then, he was playing as a rover and had become a regular Victorian interstate representative. He coached Carlton in 1925. In 1929 Caldwell coached South Melbourne at the start of the season, but died later in the year on 21 August.
