A Long Island native, Schneiderman lives in Montauk

After graduating from high school, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Ithaca College

 and then obtained a Master of Arts degree in Education from the State University of New York at Cortland

After taking his degree Schneiderman taught science, mathematics, and music in East End schools, managed his family’s business in Montauk, and later formed a property management company.

In 1991 Schneiderman became a member of the Town of East Hampton Zoning Board of Appeals, and was appointed to its chairmanship in 1996. He served in that capacity until 1999 when he was elected to the first of two terms as East Hampton Town Supervisor, and re-elected in 2005, 2007 and 2009.
