James Madison High School (commonly Madison) is a public school named after president James Madison
in the North East Independent School District

was a varsity football player for the James Madison football team that suffered paralysis in a game-time injury. After the accident, he became a motivational speaker, always encouraging people to chase their dreams. His death in 2008 prompted the school to hold an annual "David Edwards Day" on June 21 where students and faculty members sport the number 5 (his football number) in his memory. His jersey has been retired and cannot be worn by any future football players.

Founded in 1976, Madison High School graduated its first class in 1980. The school won the Superintendent’s Pride Trophy for six consecutive years. Offering space for 3200+ students, the school currently has the largest student population in its district. The school no longer runs on an A/B day block in which there are four classes in each different day. There are two semesters a year made up of eighteen weeks and two nine weeks reporting periods each. There are currently twenty-four advanced placement courses available including Chemistry AP and Calculus BC AP. For the graudating classes there are no valedictorians named. Instead, students with a grade point average above 100 are tied for top honors. However, a scholarship is awarded every year to the student ranked number 1 in the class.David Edwards
