It covers a distance of 1159 kilometers in each direction however it takes 18 hours when operating as train number 12955 at an average speed of 64.39 km/h (excluding halts) while its return journey as train number 12956 takes 17 hrs 40 mins at an average speed of 65.60 km/h (excluding halts). This train is the second fastest on the Mumbai Jaipur run after Jaipur Duronto which has no stops except technical ones. The train runs at maximum speed of 115 km/h.

This Train is the Fastest Superfast Train in terms of its Average speed. 12155 Shaan-e-Bhopal express has higher average to Bhopal direction but lesser Average speed in opposite direction.

Other trains which service the Mumbai Jaipur route are 12239/40 Jaipur Duronto, 19707 Aravali Express, 12215/12216 Garib Rath Express, 12979/12980 Bandra Jaipur Superfast Express. 12215/12216 Garib Rath Express has been recently extended from Jaipur to Delhi Sarai Rohilla. 12239/40 Jaipur Duronto, 12955/56 Jaipur Superfast & 12979/80 Bandra Jaipur Superfast Express use the Vadodara-Kota-Sawai Madhopur route while 19707/08 Aravali Express & 12215/16 Garib Rath Express go via Ahmedabad.

It leaves Mumbai Central as train number 12955 on a daily basis at 1850 hrs and at the end of 19 halts arrives at Jaipur the next day at 1250 hrs. Train number 12956 leaves Jaipur on a daily basis at 1410 hrs arriving at Mumbai Central the next day at 0750 hrs.

This is one of the few mix coach trains in India which has 7 AC Coaches.

The 12955/2956 Mumbai Jaipur Superfast generally has a A1-1st AC, HA1 which is First AC cum 2nd AC, 2 AC 2 tier, 3 AC 3 tiers and the rest are a mix of sleeper

Recently, Western Railway has begun converting the Mumbai region's 1500v DC traction to 25000v AC traction. As there is only work left between Mumbai Central and Vile Parle so soon as the remaining part would be done it will result in the elimination of the need to change engine's at Vadodara & WAP engines will start entering the Mumbai region.
