The company was formerly called Applied Mechanics Science-Production Association (NPO PM). It was founded in 1959 by Mikhail Reshetnev. During its history, the company has built 27 different space systems and over a thousand individual satellites. It currently employs about 10,000 people. It is the largest satellite producer of the Russian space industry.
