Plot

The world has been almost completely devastated by nuclear war. Inside a now all but desolate school building, a small group of teenage students, unaware of what is going on outside, await the return of their group leaders. As time passes and no one comes back for them, the children's suspicions arise. While some attempt to build order until rescue comes, a few begin to re-discover their natural animal instincts.

Production

Having finished shooting on Radio London in 2010, Malik, who has a background as a documentary film-maker, began pre-production on Island. Alongside producer Leon Hady, Malik carved a script inspired by Lord of the Flies

with the intention of shooting all scenes inside a school. Malik and Hady initially cast Lauren Kellegher, who had worked alongside them with a minor role in Radio London as a then untitled character. Through auditions and call backs, the producers re-wrote parts of the script and many qualities of the characters were based on the actors who auditioned.

Filming

Filming took place in Westminster City School, London. Principal filming was finished by, August 2011.
