In December 2008, during 5th General Meeting, the Iraqi Kurdistan granted full membership to the NF Board and was a failed candidate to host the 2010 VIVA World Cup. They will organize the 2012 edition.

On September the first the Iraqi Kurdistan federation has sended more then 20 scouts over the world to search for Kurdish talents over the world. The search will mainly be focused on the lands Germany, France, Sweden, Netherlands and the United Kingdom but also in the United States and Turkey. Iraqi Kurdistan foreign football secretary Orkun Izzedin said For now the scouts will be sended to these countrys, But we hope to send a delegation of scouts at the end of January 2012 to other country's like Spain, Italy, Greece were many Kurdish refugee's live. We want to show that we have many good players not only here in Kurdistan but also abroad . Iraqi Kurdistan has planned 3 friendly matches which will be played in Zoetermeer against the Moluccan island, New Zealand and SV Argon.
