on Farm Road 39 and the Burlington-Rock Island Railway, at the headwaters of Ragan Creek in northwest Grimes County. A July 1, 2009 U.S. Census Bureau
estimate placed the population at 430.
has two campuses - Iola High School
(Grades 7-12) and Iola Elementary School (Grades PK-6).
Iola is also hometown of J.J. Sajewski, the former leader of the Fighting Texas Aggie Infantry Band.
2000 Bulldog Heart Award winner, Cody "spills" Crenshaw can still be seen around town from time to time.
Sgt. Kenneth "Charles" Paddick, a decorated war hero, is also from Iola. During the 2000-2001 football season "Automatic Paddick" led the Iola Bulldogs in all-purpose yards, punt return yards, and kick return yards (practice squad). He is also a noted philanthropist and avid bird watcher. Darren "the Keith city cowboy" Schrameck, the famous golf pro, grew up in Iola. On the tour, Schrameck, from 2000 to 2010, has accrued winnings in upwards of $3,200. Although unconfirmed, the blue-hairs at the Iola cafe still say to this day, that the Keith city cowboy could throw a football to North Zulch behind a stiff breeze.
