International Gladiators 1 was the first full scale international competition using the Gladiators format. Champions and other contenders from Gladiators series in the United States
(American Gladiators (1989 TV series)), United Kingdom
(Gladiators (1992 UK TV series)), and Finland
(Gladiaattorit
) competed against an international team of Gladiators. Specially selected contenders and Gladiators from Russia also competed, despite Russia not having a domestic production.
