, is a global association of privacy and security professionals. With more than 9,000 individual and corporate members in 73 countries, the IAPP seeks to define, promote and improve the profession of privacy. The IAPP achieves this mission through a combination of certification programs (the Certified Information Privacy Professional, or CIPP), conferences, publications, and networking events.

History

Originally constituted as the Privacy Officers Association (POA) in 2000, it became the International Association of Privacy Officers (IAPO) in 2002 when the POA merged with a competing group, the Association of Corporate Privacy Officers (ACPO). In 2003, the group was renamed to the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) to reflect a broadened mission to include the rapidly growing ranks of corporate personnel, beyond the position of Chief Privacy Officer

Certifications

Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) covers the essentials of U.S. and international privacy and data protection laws, standards and practices.

Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) is the first professional credential to be designed by Canadian privacy officers for Canadian privacy professionals and is offered exclusively by the IAPP.

The Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) is the first professional credential specific to European data protection professionals that is part of a comprehensive, principles-based framework and knowledge base in information privacy. The CIPP/E encompasses pan-European and national data protection laws, the European model for privacy enforcement, key privacy terminology and practical concepts concerning the protection of personal data and trans-border data flows.

Certified Information Privacy Professional/Government (CIPP/G) is designed exclusively for employees of U.S. federal and state government agencies as well as vendors and consultants that serve U.S. government clients.

Certified Information Privacy Professional/Information Technology (CIPP/IT) assesses understanding of privacy and data protection practices in the development, engineering, deployment and auditing of IT products and services
