Institute of Solid State Physics

Institute of Solid State Physics is one of the physical institutes at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
. Created by Decree No 362 in October 16, 1972 by the Ministry Council of Bulgaria
it is successor of the Institute of Physics
with Atomic Scientific Experimental Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
, founded by George Nadjakov in 1946.
Since January 1, 1973 it provides scientific background of the solid state electronics and optics in Bulgaria.
In February 16, 1982 the Institute of Solid State Physics accepted the name "George Nadjakov Institute of Solid State Physics".
Nikolay Kirov, professor, D. Sc. is the second Director (1991-1999).
Alexander G. Petrov
, Professor, D. Sc., member of BAS is the last Director since 1999.
Physical Problems of Microelectronics Laboratory has based on the old Department "Silicon", headed by Professor Jordan Kasabov, corresponding member of BAS.
