Institut de veille sanitaire (Sanitary Surveillance Institute) is a Health minister
public establishment. Its mission is to survey the health of the population
and, if required (for example in the case of an epidemics), to alert the administration
, health specialists and the whole of the population. This surveillance role is shared with other public organisations such as the Agence française de sécurité sanitaire des aliments (Afssa), the Agence française de sécurité sanitaire des produits de santé
(Afssaps) and the Agence française de sécurité sanitaire de l'environnement (Afsse).
