History

The Play school started operating in August 1989 with four students. Within a month the student body had increased to 20 and then to 45 in the following year.

By 1997 the Play school had moved to an independent school building in the Clifton area. Here the student strength was 75 with eight teachers in addition to the three original partners.

With the number of students increasing, a need for additional space was felt. As a result in 2003 the school rented 62 Clifton in addition to the two buildings located at D75 and D76 Clifton. In 2006 the school purchased 62 Clifton which currently houses its middle and senior sections. The idea of building a purpose built campus is still in the pipeline since the profits earned by the tuition fees are still kept minimal.

Curriculum

Subjects taught at The Indus Academy are Maths, Science, History, Geography, Urdu, Computers, Islamiat, Urdu, English Literature and Grammar, in addition to Arts for primary school. The Senior section offers 10 O'level subjects with 4 elective subjects from Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computers, Sociology, Fine Arts, Economics, Statistics and Accounts along with compulsory subjects Maths, Pakistan Studies, Islamiat, Urdu, English Grammar and English Literature. They follow British NLS (National Literacy Strategy) and NNS (National Numeracy Strategy) System.

Growth

Extra-curricular activities are offered at the school and the students are active participants in social work and fund-raisers, dramatics, elocution, film making and photography, inter- school sports like soccer, rowing, cricket, basketball, swimming and horse-riding, karate, debates, spelling-bee, essay and math competitions. The senior school student body has societies like Chess, Pottery Making, Music, Photography and Film Making and Debate Society. There have also been field trips to Malaysia and cities within Pakistan. Every year, the school has a 'Sports Day' event which takes place at Zamzama Stadium which is situated in Khadda Market. Students are encouraged to participate in these various extra-curricular activities.
