Thereafter he worked for the Commonwealth Secretariat from 1990–2008, holding the posts of Director, Economic Affairs Division and Deputy-Director, Secretary-General's Office and was brought back to the Commonwealth Secretariat to head the Social Transformation Programme Division, as Interim Director. He is currently a Special Advisor at the Galleon Group.
He played first class cricket during 1971 to 1972 in Ceylon and for the Cambridge University team.
