Encyclopedia
Registration for season 4 began on April 1, 2008. The winner of the show for this season was announced on 1 March 2009. The fourth season have Anu Malik and Javed Akhtar on the hot seats as they take judges' chair once again for the show. New to this season are singer Kailash Kher and Indian actress Sonali Bendre.
Like the previous season, the first four finalists to be eliminated were female, and the judges believe that some of these girls were better singers than some of the remaining boys. All the previous years' top 3 finalists have also been male, leading to speculation of sexism against women among the Indian voting public. Girls closest to the coveted title have been Prajakta Shukre [Season I] and Ankita Mishra [Season III] who were in the Top 4. Indian Idol 4 is the first time that two girls have reached the final Top 3. They are Torsha Sarkar and Sourabhee Debbarma. Kapil Thapa is the last boy standing in this season. However after all votes were tabulated, Sourabhee was announced as Winner, with Kapil in second, and Torsha in third.
