Incremental validity is a term used in the field of psychology
to describe the gain in validity

s to an existing selection system. Incremental validity shows that a new measure improves upon existing measures. For example, an existing measure for depression might be an interview with a clinician. A new test of depression might be a paper-and-pencil test. For the new test to be considered incrementally valid, the paper-and-pencil test would have to demonstrate empirically that it detects depression better than the interview
