IBM Storwize V7000
Encyclopedia
In Computer data Storage, the IBM Storwize V7000 is a midrange storage controller from IBM
. The Storwize V7000 is based on the IBM SAN Volume Controller
(SVC).
The enclosures are available in six varieties:
The control enclosure contains two independent control units based on SAN Volume Controller technology, which are clustered via an internal network, using the SVC clustering mechanism. The control units are referred to
as canisters. Each enclosure also includes two PSUs. The control enclosure PSUs each house a battery pack which retains cached data in the event of a power failure. The enclosures are interconnected with wide SAS cables (4 x 6Gb/sec).

IBM SAN Volume Controller
In computer data storage, the IBM SAN Volume Controller is a block storage virtualization appliance that belongs to the IBM System Storage product family. SVC implements an indirection, or "virtualization", layer in a Fibre Channel storage area network .- Architecture :SVC is always deployed as a...

Hardware
The Storwize V7000 consists of up to two control enclosures and up to 18 expansion enclosures. It can scale up to 480 disks and 480 TB raw capacity. The enclosures are available in six varieties:
- Type 2076-112 = Control enclosure + 12 3.5" drives
- Type 2076-124 = Control enclosure + 24 2.5" drives
- Type 2076-212 = Expansion enclosure + 12 3.5" drives
- Type 2076-224 = Expansion enclosure + 24 2.5" drives
- Type 2076-312 = Control enclosure + 12 3.5" drives + 10Gb iSCSI

Architecture
The Storwize V7000 provides a very similar architecture to SVC, using the RAID code from the DS8000 to provide internal managed disks.Features
- Easy to use GUI
- IBM Easy Tier
- RAID levels 0,1,5,6,10
- FlashCopyFlashCopyFlashCopy is an IBM feature supported on various IBM storage devices that makes it possible to create, nearly instantaneously, Point in Time copies of entire logical volumes or data sets. The Hitachi Data Systems implementation providing similar function is branded as ShadowImage...
- Peer to Peer Remote CopyPeer to Peer Remote CopyPeer to Peer Remote Copy or PPRC is a protocol to replicate a storage volume to another control unit in a remote site. Synchronous PPRC causes each write to the primary volume to be performed to the secondary as well, and the I/O is only considered complete when update to both primary and secondary...
- Metro Mirror (sync copy)
- Global MirrorGlobal MirrorGlobal Mirror is an IBM technology that provides data replication over extended distances between two sites for business continuity and disaster recovery. If adequate bandwidth exists, Global Mirror provides an recovery point objective of as low as 3-5 seconds between the two sites at extended...

- External Storage Virtualization
- Virtual Disk Mirroring
- Data Migration
- Data can be moved between all virtualized storage (both internal and external)
