 also known as Rachel Carson intermediate school 237. This is a magnet school for the arts so it features lots programs that do with the arts like singing, band, dancing and art (drawing). This school consists of grades 6, 7, 8 and also has teachers that teach the basic knowledge that will be used in high school. The current principal is Judith Friedman and assistant principles are Jeanine strong and Stephen Galizia. The art programs there have really achieved high standards and the teachers there are really good teachers.

which inspired people to name the school after her. In 2011 the school will be celebrating it's 40th anniversary since it's opening in 1971. Each year in June for the 8th graders they have a senior trip to the The Poconos

Standards

In order to pass each year all students must pass the 4 major subjects which are Math, English, Social Studies and Science. However, Scholar Program students must pass 5 subjects including Spanish. Minor subjects such as Gym, Health/Hygiene,Talent (Art, Strings, Band, Chorus), Foreign Language (Spanish).

Current affairs

Each year the school's talent department has a performance better known as the Winter Arts Festival, and the Spring Arts Festival each year. Former principal Joseph D. Cantara served as the longest in the school's history until his retirement in 2008. Then Judith Friedman took over in 2008 since then. He even appeared in the 2011 graduation.

On January 3, 2010, after the winter break, the school is trying to get the new uniforms to take in effect and the students are trying to end Judith Friedman's attack on the students. A Campaign on Facebook has been started to stop this from taking effect. The result came out to be as more 6th & 7th graders wore the uniform and a very few percentage of 8th graders wore the new uniform.

2011

In 2011 PTA elections are taking place for new position holders for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary. The elections took place on June 2 as new members took over and they were Nausheen Gazali (President), Aley Fatma (Vice President), Sneha Nachankar (Treasurer), Anandji Anupama (Recording Secretary).

On June 7,2011, The school had an annual town hall safety meeting. All parents of whose kids go to 237 were invited to attend the meeting.

On June 14,2011, There is going to be a party for teachers who will be retiring this year for the 2010-2011 school year. The party is going to be held at Jericho Terrace, Mineola, New York
