H. pulchrum is found growing in Austria, Belgium, Britain, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. It is found in suitable habitats throughout the United Kingdom. It has been introduced to New Zealand
