. The center is a joint venture that was funded 60 percent by Prince William County, 30 pecent by the university and 10 percent by the City of Manassas, Virginia. It opened on May 22, 2010.

The nine-story structure contains 85000 sq ft (7,896.8 m²) of space including:
  • 1,121-seat Merchant Hall opera house with a 100 foot stage and orchestra pit.
  • 270-seat Gregory Family Theater which offers flexible seating arrangements.
  • The Buchanan Partners Gallery, which is an art gallery.

The center offers space to 11 arts groups in Prince William County as well as rents space to schools and other groups as needed. The exterior of the building is clad in copper, which will, by design, slowly fade into different shades of green. The interior also features copper that has been treated so that it will neither weather or take fingerprints. Copper, wood, and concrete are combined with red and purple highlights throughout the interior, which county officials claim is breathtaking.
