Hot! Live and Otherwise
Encyclopedia
Hot! Live and Otherwise is a combination live and in-studio album by American
singer Dionne Warwick
, released in 1981 on Arista Records. Recorded live over several dates at Harrah's Casino in Reno, NV in the spring of 1981, this is a highly sought after album in Dionne Warwick
's back catalogue. The original 2-LP
release featured three sides of live recordings, plus a fourth side of studio recordings, including the pop and AC hit "Some Changes Are For Good". Three of those studio recordings were produced by Michael Masser
and the other two were produced by Steve Buckingham.
Copies of the original US and Japan CD versions of the album have sold on eBay for over US$100.00. SoulMusic.com (distributed in the UK by Expansion Records) reissued the LP on CD in 2007 with new liner notes from David Nathan, a slightly amended track listing, and two previously unissued studio bonus cuts, "When the Good Times Come Again" and "Right Back." The former song was written by Richard Kerr (songwriter)
and Will Jennings
- the same writing team that provided Warwick with her gold-selling comeback hit, "I'll Never Love This Way Again" in 1979. Interestingly, when Expansion reissued Dionne's 1980 album No Night So Long
on CD in 2010, they included (amongst 3 bonus cuts) a song that was originally recorded and intended for the studio side of Hot! Live and Otherwise. The song, the Michael Masser
-produced "This Time Is Ours", was ultimately relegated to being the B-side of the album's first single, "Some Changes Are For Good". Thus, by including it on the 2010 No Night So Long
reissued CD, the song makes both its first appearance on a Dionne Warwick full-length album and its first appearance on any CD.
Although rumors have circulated that the recorded shows were also filmed, this has not been officially confirmed.
