It was designed in 1943/44, based on the Horten Ho IV
. The Horten Ho VI was an enlarged version of the Ho IV. The goal of this design was to compare its flying wing design against the FFG Darmstadt D 30 Cirrus aircraft.
The Horten Ho VI has also been designated the Horten Ho 253.
