Horizon Middle School became Horizon Middle/High School in the school year 2003–2004 and continued to occupy the current Horizon High School campus, serving grades 7 through 10. By the 2004–2005 school year Horizon Middle School became a separate administrative entity from Horizon High School, serving grades 7 and 8, but continuing to share the same physical facilities as Horizon High School.  campus during the 2005–2006 school year, serving grades 6 through 8, while awaiting completion of the new Horizon Middle School campus. During this transition period, Carroll T. Welch Intermediate School shared facilities with Frank Macias Elementary School. By the 2006–2007 school year, Horizon Middle School moved into its permanent location serving grades 6 through 8. In the 2010–2011 school year, Horizon Middle School will begin serving grades 6 and 7 only. Its 8th grade students, together with the 9th grade students from Horizon High School, will be moved to new facilities at Ricardo Estrada Junior High School.
