Early life

Hoegeng was born Hoegeng Iman Santoso in Pekalongan

 on 14 October 1921 and changed to Hoegeng later. The name Hoegeng was taken from "bugel" (to "bugeng" and "hugeng" later; which means fat) due to his fat body. His father was Soekarjo Kario Hatmodjo from Tegal, a prosecutor in Pekalongan and his mother was Oemi Kalsoem from Pemalang
