.It is a Tehsil HQ. Raja Hari Singh is believed to have founded Hiranagar Town after his name when he was bestowed with the Jagir of Jasrota by Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab (1834-44 AD). He also renovated the Jasmergarh Fort situated between Tarnah and Bein Nallahs. The fort also housed Tehsil and Other Govt Offices till they were shifted to Hiranagar after 1947. The town has a fast Developing Industrial Estate and a Modern Industrial Training Institute.

Hiranagar is located at 32.45°N 75.27°E. It has an average elevation of 308 metres (1010 feet).

Jhandi Fort

The Jhandi Fort is situated just outside the town towards Pakistan Border. This Fort was built by King Hira after whose name the town was named. Fort has a very renowned temple of Mata Kali. This fort is currently converted into a Prison for Political Prisoner

Near to hira nagar is Dayala chak a thriving town with lot of shops and it is on the national highwaY.you can have a good shopping there .

Further toward the Pakistan Border, is village Kattal Gujran.This small village has mainly the Jatt refugees who were relocated after the occupation of Chhamb sector by Pakistani army in 1971 Indo-Pak war. This is the village where the family of Subedar.Dinanath Choudhary lives. Subedar. Dinanath Choudhary is a gallantry award winner and was awarded "VIR CHAKRA" in 1965 Indo-Pak war, posthumously. The award was given by then Hon. President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and was received by his widow Smt. Shahni Devi.

In addition, Sanskrit is considered a compulsory subject for students at MVMS.
