HSSC is studied over a two year period, and is the standard entry qualification for assessing the suitability of applicants for academic courses in degree colleges, institutions and universities in Pakistan

At the end of the two-year HSSC course, an examination is conducted by Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education, and candidates receive total marks obtained in all subjects as well as in each subject.
