Ishima was originally in a group called The Beavers, who had released some singles but not had major success.

After leaving Flower Travellin' Band, he recorded a solo album, One Day. Then he joined a group called Trans Am, followed by the Donjuan R&R Band with Kenichi Hagiwara. During the 1980s he was in Co-Colo along with Nobuhiko Shinohara. In 2000, he recorded the album More-ish with the group Pythagorus Party.
