Henry Samson was one of the Pilgrims who came over on the Mayflower
.
He was 16 years old when he made the voyage. He came with his cousins, Edward
and Ann Tilley, who also brought Humility Cooper
, who was their niece (and probably an orphan). Of the 102 Mayflower passengers, 52 of them died in the first winter at Plymouth Colony
, including both of the Tilleys. Henry Samson survived though, and thrived. He married Anne Plummer in 1635, and over the years received generous land grants. He became a freeman sometime prior to Mar. 7, 1636/37, and bought an indentured servant. Samson volunteered for service in the Pequot War
, served on grand and trial juries, was constable of Duxbury, was a tax collector, and was selected by the court to help lay out grants of land.
