Heikki Nurmio joined the Finnish jägers in 1916 in Germany. He participated in combats in Germany's Eastern front and fought against Russia in the Civil War. His book "Jääkärin päiväkirja" (Diary of a jäger) was published in 1918 and he became known also as the author of war novels that were meant for younger audiences.
