HealthDay specializes in producing and licensing daily health news on the Internet for consumers and medical professionals The company's custom content division provides customized health articles and HealthDay TV, a daily video service for consumers.

History

Founded as a private company in 2001, HealthDay debuted its Consumer Health News Service providing 15+ disease management and wellness articles a day – up to 5,000 documents per year. Each news article is written in an evidence-based fashion using sources and interviews from top medical journals, top medical conferences, top medical specialists in specific fields, and special reports from government institutions and health care providers.

In 2002 HealthDay introduced its consumer news en Español and Japanese.

In 2004 HealthDay created a custom writing division that provides customized health content for companies that need content that goes beyond news.

In 2005 HealthDay introduced its Physician’s Briefing news service. This physician- and nurse-focused news service provides a minimum of 15 articles a day across 32 different medical specialties, yielding more than 3,900 articles a year.

In July 2009, in conjunction with HealthDay Consumer Health News, HealthDay launched The company's custom content division provides customized health articles and HealthDay TV, a 90-second evidence-based daily news broadcast of essential health information.

Dan McKillen is CEO of HealthDay - Dan has more than 30 years of experience including senior management positions at Lifetime Medical Television and as CEO of Reuters Health before joining HealthDay in 2003.

George Giokas is Senior Director of Custom Content George has 30 years in journalism including as executive news editor at Newsday and owner of StaffWriters Plus Inc., a company specializing in customized editorial assignments. He is also chairman of HealthDay’s Board of Directors.

David Rouatt is Managing Director – David was the original business innovator behind HealthDay’s independent launch in 2001. David has worked in product marketing, sales and business development at organizations such as Torstar, Gannett Publishing, National Cable Advertising, MediConsult, and RxRemedy and is in charge of Sales and Marketing at HealthDay.

Andrew Sherman is CFO – Andrew has more than 12 years of experience in finance and business ownership and an additional 10-plus years in sales and marketing at organizations such as Dun & Bradstreet & Adecco subsidiaries.

Jeff Walsh is Executive Editor - Jeff has more than 30 years of journalism experience, which includes a number of reporting and senior editing positions with the Gannett Company.

Dr. Cindy Haines is Chief Medical Officer - She also is the managing editor of HealthDay's Physician's Briefing daily wire service, and she heads up the company's physician-directed content division, which provides a variety of services for client Internet sites, all involving medical content reviewed by board-certified doctors. Dr. Haines also oversees the process that ensures the medical accuracy of all HealthDay content and represents the company as its physician spokesperson.

E.J. (Ernie) Mundell is Managing Editor, Consumer News - Ernie is the former managing editor for the consumer health news division of Reuters. His work has also appeared on MSNBC, in Gannett newspapers, The Scientist, and elsewhere.

Robin Foster is Senior Editor - Robin has 20 years of experience in journalism, including editing stints at a Times-Mirror newspaper in Connecticut and a Times-Journal daily in Washington D.C.

Linda Searing is Senior Editor - Linda's 38 years of editing credentials include the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, USA Today and the Boston Herald. In addition, she was managing editor for the medical journal publisher Wolters Kluwer / Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

Barry Hoffman is Founding Editor - Barry created the HealthDay news service, and has more than 40 years' experience in wire service, broadcast and newspaper journalism. Hoffman has held top editorial and general management positions with the Gannett and Times Mirror companies and is past president of the New York State Associated Press Association.

Jean Patman is Consulting Editor - Jean is the former managing editor of HealthDay, and her extensive journalism experience includes directing Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage for Newsday when she was foreign editor. She was also features editor of the Los Angeles Times and has held editing positions at Gannett newspapers and the New York Post.

Scott Roberts is Director of Technology - Scott began as a reporter with Gannett and also worked in hospital public relations before joining Prodigy Services Corp. as a senior editor in 1988 and then becoming senior producer there. Scott oversees all technical aspects of HealthDay's transmissions to its clients.
