Harrisburg has one of the fastest growing school districts in the state. Harrisburg currently has one high school, one middle school, and four elementary schools. Explorer Elementary, Freedom Elementary and Journey Elementary are within the city limits of Sioux Falls, while Liberty Elementary is located inside Harrisburg. Harrisburg recently finished building a fourth elementary school, Freedom Elementary, on the northwest side of Harrisburg. A new sports complex and stadium were built at the new high school on the west side of Harrisburg, along with construction of soccer fields and tennis courts on the north side of the Harrisburg High School campus.
