. Historically it has its foundations as part of the Hamstead Colliery from the early to mid 20th Century with a lot of the housing have been built for the miners. Thus today it is still referred to as Hamstead Village, a term caught on also by Birmingham City University
students who reside at the Hamstead Campus, because of the number of takeaways on the Old Walsall Road that runs past the train station.
The River Tame
enter Hamstead after passing through Sandwell Valley, and runs through the village. It is the largest tributary of the River Trent
but is not navigable.
The Tame Valley Canal
runs through Hamstead Village nearby the old colliery site. Coal used to be transported from Hamstead Wharf near Spouthouse Lane along the canal to the Grand Union Canal
and onwards.
The 654 Bus is also known as the 'Hamstead Villager' as printed on the side of many of its buses, operated by Travel West Midlands. There Is also a secondary School Located in the Area Called Hamstead Hall Community Learning Centre
