, but after coastal expansion and dredging, the island has merged with Muharraq Island

, and the former settlement has become a neighbourhood of Muharraq city. The neighbourhood is sometimes abbreviated to simply "Al Hala" . The neighborhood lies on the southern tip of Muharraq city.

Halat Bu Maher was occupied by Balooshi Families before 1930. In 1930 the Government of Bahrain converted the Halat Bu Maher Island to a Quarantine. Balooshi families were compensated with land in Busaiteen area in Muharraq.

Halat Bu Maher is home to the historic Bu Maher Fort. The area is the home of the Al Hala Club football team.
