It is adoringly called the 'Switzerland of the East'. Haflong is a quaint hill station breath takingly beautiful,garlanded by the hills and an unending saga of gently flowing streams and waterfalls. The hills are hidden by rolling mists and clouds float within your fingertips.

Geography

Haflong is located at Coord |25.18|N|9E. It has an average elevation of 513 metres (1683 feet).

Modes of communication

Though there is no direct Air connection to Dima Hasao District, one can fly up to Silchar or Guwahati or Dimapur from where easy road & railway options to Haflong are available.

Commonly spoken languages are Haflong Hindi,Hmar,Zeme Naga, , Kuki(Thado), Biate, Hrangkhawl, Vaiphei,Jaintia(Pnar), English, Bengali and Dimasa.

Demographics

India census , Haflong had a population of 35,906. Males constitute 45% of the population and females 55%. Haflong has an average literacy rate of 92%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 85%, and female literacy is 75%. In Haflong, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
The population of the Town comprises various tribes & races who maintain their own dialect, culture, customs & usages. Apart from various tribes, non-tribals also account for a sizable amount of the population. They are mostly government employees, traders living in urban & semi-urban area. The small and serene Villages shelter the lovely people – warm and fascinating – and as colourful as the land itself. Hmar, Dimasa,Kuki, Hrangkhol, Biate and Mizo etc. are some of the tribes residing in the hill station.

Maibang: Located on the bank of the river Mahur and 53 km from Haflong. Maibang once flourished as the capital of Kachari (Dimasa) Kingdom. Stone house & temple of Kachari king & other ruins of the kingdom are the main attractions of the place.

Near Umrangso, there is a Hot spring( GARAMPANI),the water of which is believed to have medicinal value.

Panimoor: Approximately 120 km away from Haflong, and 8–10 km from Haflong Tiniali,The Kopili River turns into a thrilling waterfall, rolling over the rocks of Panimoor.

Langting:The nearest major railway station to Langting is Haflong (HFG) which is at a distance of 65.00 kilometres.
