Hurricane Ike

The community of Hackberry was essentially destroyed by Hurricane Ike

 in September 2008. Hurricane Ike's 22 feet (6.7 m) crawled 60 miles inland and devastated Hackberry. The small community was heavily flooded and all structures (houses, churches, buildings, etc.) were totally gutted. Flooding caused by the hurricane killed many cattle and other farm animals.
